“UMBRIA. HERITAGE" IN MONTEFALCO: THE EXHIBITION THAT TELLS THE BEAUTY OF UMBRIA

At the Montefalco Museum until March 3rd the evocative photographic exhibition dedicated to the cultural heritage of Umbria, the result of the editorial project by Elvio Lunghi and Giovanni Tarpani.

It is an invitation to travel to Umbria to discover an incredibly unique heritage. Identity, protection, beauty, industriousness and know-how are the elements of the photographic exhibition “Umbria. Patrimoni”, set up in the splendid setting of the San Francesco Museum Complex in Montefalco. The evocative exhibition was born from the editorial project of Maggioli Cultura e Turismo which began in 2021 with “Umbria. Eredità” and always signed by the photographic shots of Giovanni Tarpani and the texts by the art historian Elvio Lunghi. It can be visited until March 3, 2024.
The exhibition presents a selection of 35 large format images, mostly taken from the volume “Umbria. Heritage” and a minor section from “Umbria. Inheritance". It is the representation of the territory through photography, which takes on not only an aesthetic value but above all a "reproduction" of the experience that Umbria allows in various forms.
The two publications together make up a unique experiment of its kind in Italy, which has as its object the representation and valorization of the identity of a territory through its widespread cultural and environmental assets, both tangible and intangible. The exhibition is curated by Maggioli Cultura e Turismo in collaboration with the Municipality of Montefalco.

Central theme of “Umbria. Heritage” are cultural assets in all their forms, described in lively language. Stories, images and encounters of a land rich in time, past, present and future. From Assisi to Panicale, passing through Perugia, Foligno, Montefalco, Spello or Torgiano, there are some identifying places in Umbria, where you can live an authentic experience. Castles, abbeys, villages, churches, museums that live in contemporaneity, adapting to new rhythms, preserving the best part of themselves. The human presence in the photographic shots has the aim of establishing contexts, dimensions of the places and objects of the narrative, through the protagonism of those who work or visit them. A choice that expresses a decisive affirmation of cultural heritage as an instrument of knowledge and not just of contemplation or study of beauty as an end in itself. The authors Elvio Lunghi and Giovanni Tarpani write: «The past time, together with that of the contemporary, allow us to experience Umbria as visitors, tourists and inhabitants, far from the speed with which the flow of life is consumed today. This is why Umbria is "a land rich in time".

During the Christmas holidays the Montefalco Museum is open every day (until 7 January 2024), with the following opening hours: 10.30am-1pm / 2.30pm-5pm. Closed on Monday 1 January. The visit to the exhibition “Umbria. Patrimoni” is part of the ticket to the museum complex, an authentic and precious jewel, where the links between art and history of Montefalco are intertwined. The main works are the apse wonderfully decorated by Benozzo Gozzoli with the "Stories from the life of Saint Francis" and the fresco "Annunciation, Eternal in glory among the angels and Nativity", by Pietro Perugino.

The volume “Umbria. Heritage”
“Umbria. Heritage”, like the previous volume “Umbria. Eredità”, aims to restore the profound meaning of the Umbrian soul: its cultural identity. For this reason the book presents two new sections that show a land of great heritage and vitality. The first section is dedicated to two artistic heritages produced in this land and today preserved outside the region, but which thus become disseminators of knowledge of the history of Umbria. The second to some virtuous examples of "know-how assets", which have in common the material production and reuse of existing housing assets, with a strong character of openness to the world we live in.
«With this second book - they underline from Maggioli Cultura e Turismo -, which is part of an original model of valorisation of Maggioli's cultural heritage, our invitation continues to experience the liveliness of Umbria and to enjoy authentic experiences here, digging into the its most intimate fabric, in the most secret corners, observing languages and narratives full of reality".
