The Municipality of Montefalco, in collaboration with Eclipsis Style Project, as part of the festival dedicated entirely to oil called 'AMOLOLIO' presents the exhibition of the master Sergio Favotto, one of the few artists of monumental art recognized at an international level.
On this occasion, the master presents the work related to the city event The miracle of oil and a section of canvases and sketches that are part of the monumental iconographic project dedicated to the life and miracles of San Benedetto da Norcia, patron saint of Europe, which will soon decorate the vault of the Abbey of Montecassino, already painted by Luca Giordano around 1678, and destroyed by the bombings of the Allies in 1944. Montefalco christens this ambitious project destined to write an important page in the history of Italian art.
The exhibition itinerary includes the Teatro Comunale (formerly Church) San Filippo Neri
The medallions are exhibited there: Riggo unmasked and Submission of Totila
Sergio Favotto, born in Musano (Treviso), is considered one of the few artists of monumental art recognized at an international level. Since 1965 he has participated in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad, in historic villas and museums, including the historic Galerie Bernheim-Jeune, the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Nations. He has also exhibited in the United States and Latin America. He has collaborated with Ferrario as a promoter of innovative products. Among his most important works are frescoes and paintings created in numerous churches and parish churches, in the presbytery of the Basilica of Montecassino, and some capitals for the National Sanctuary of Ta' Pinu in Malta. He executed monumental canvases for the Basilica of Sant’Andrea della Valle in Rome and a grandiose cycle on Saint Benedict intended to decorate the vault of the Abbey of Montecassino – a project containing the iconographic program of 450 square meters of painted surface – already frescoed by Luca Giordano around 1678, and destroyed by the Allied bombings of 1944. A renowned portraitist of pontiffs, he executed the portrait of Benedict XVI in the Palace of the Grand Master in Malta and those of the last popes in the sacristy of the Basilica of Saint John Lateran in Rome.
